به نام خداوند جان و خرد یکی از مفاهیم بحث‌انگیز ویلیام جیمز، امری است که او با واژه fringe که در زبان انگلیسی به معنی حاشیهء دور یک چیز یا مکان با شهر (نیز چتر مو) است بیان کرده است.برخی محققان این اصطلاح را با اصطلاح «افق» نزد هوسرل سنجیده اند اما من گمان می‌کنم بیشتر به مفهوم «عالم» نزد هیدگر نزدیک باشد.چند سطری از کتاب اصول روان‌شناسی ویلیام جیمز را که این اصطلاح در آن معرفی می‌شود در زیر نقل و ترجمه می‌کنم:There is a common class of mistakes which shows how brain-processes begin to be excited before the thoughts attached to them are due- due, that is, in substantive and vivid form.
